In engineering, generally metal means any of several chemical elements that are usually shiny solids that conduct heat or electricity and can be formed into sheets etc.
Physical properties Edit
Metals in general have superior electric conductivity and thermal conductivity, high lustre and density and the ability to be deformed under stress without cleavage.
An alloy is a mixture of two or more elements. in which the major component is a metal. Most pure metals are either too soft, brittle or chemically reactive for practical use. Combining different ratios of metals as alloys modifies the properties of pure metals to produce desirable characteristics. The aim of making alloys is generally to make them less brittle, harder, resistant to corrosion, or have a more desirable color and luster.
