A nuclear bomb is a nuclear weapon and is a very powerful weapon too.

Types of bombsEdit

There are two types of nuclear bombs: (1) fission bomb. Also known as the atomic bomb (A-bomb). This type of bomb uses either plutonium or uranium; (2) fusion bomb. Also known as the hydrogen bomb (H-bomb). It combines or "fuses" (hence the name fusion) hydrogen to form helium.

CharacteristicsEdit

The fusion bombs are more powerful than the fission bombs. Only 2 of these fission bombs have been used in war; on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. The bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima was a uranium bomb, codenamed "Little boy". It was a "gun" triggered bomb. This meant a uranium projectile was fired to another piece of uranium, setting off a vast explosion. The bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki was a plutonium bomb, codenamed "Fat man". It was an implosion designed bomb. This meant explosives fired, compressing a plutonium core, also setting off a vast explosion. The first atomic bomb to be tested was an implosion design, codenamed "Trinity".

The developmentEdit

The development of the nuclear bomb or a weapon, was based as part of the Manhattan Project. A nuclear weapon is a type of explosive weapon that derives its destructive force from nuclear reactions of fusion or fission. As a result, even a nuclear weapon with a small yield is significantly more powerful than the largest conventional explosives, and a single weapon is capable of destroying an entire city.
