Physics is the science of matterand its motion. It is the science that deals with concepts such as force, energy, mass, and Newton's laws of motion(physics)|charge]].

Physics (from the Greek, φυσικός (phusikos), "natural", and φύσις (phusis), "nature") is the science of the natural world in the broadest sense, dealing with matter and energy and the fundamental forces of nature that govern the interactions between particles;

[edit] History

Physics is one of the oldest academic disciplines. It emerged as a modern science in the 17th century.

Evidence exists that the earliest civilizations dating back to beyond 3000BC, such as the Indus Valley Civilization etc., all had a predictive knowledge and a basic understanding of the motions of the Sun, Moon, and stars.

Physics is intended for a particular use or type of use, for example in engineering, as opposed to basic research.

Physics as used in engineering is similar to applied mathematics.
